9.- C&A

Born in Holland in 1841 by the brothers Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer, this cheap fashion brand has a presence in 22 countries in Europe, as well as Brazil, China and Mexico. In fact, the textile tradition of Clemens and August goes back much further, as in 1671 their ancestors left the family farm and set out to sell their products as itinerant flax merchants. During the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century, C&A revolutionized the textile sector and created a new market with great potential by offering affordable clothing. All this led to the fact that, at the beginning of the 20th century, C&A was considered a benchmark in cheap clothing brands.

Now, the challenge for this 21st century is to get cheap but also sustainable brand clothing. Currently, half of the cotton with which C&A manufactures clothes is already organic with the expectation of continuing to increase this amount. In addition, they use recycled materials in the creation of new garments, they have opted for a new line of “Water-Saving-Denim” jeans (which requires half the water for the production of these garments) and they innovate in materials such as TENCEL, among other measures. All of this for the premises that currently move this brand. “Because sustainability should not be a luxury, and our clients should not have to choose between dressing well, feeling well and acting well,” explain on their website.

As of today, it has several stores in the capital, and they are working to open others in Valencia, Barcelona and Zaragoza. Despite this, their clothes and accessories can be bought online from anywhere as well as in other second-hand Mulaya stores such as Micolet.
